General Chair's Message

FPOAs General Chair, I invite you to participate in the 2017 IEEE MTT-S Wireless and Microwave Technology Conference we affectionately call WAMICON. WAMICON will be held off the Atlantic Ocean in Cocoa Beach Florida Monday April 24th through Tuesday April 25th 2017. This will be the 18th consecutive Wireless and Microwave Conference held in Florida. WAMICON started life as an outcome of industry-academic exchange between the University of South Florida (USF) Electrical Engineering Department's Center for Wireless and Microwave Information Systems (WAMI Center) and companies involved in microwave and wireless engineering.

The first "conference" was held in February 1999 at the Embassy Suites adjacent to the USF campus. That conference with its small 50, or so, attendees has blossomed over the years into an IEEE MTT-S sponsored annual international conference earning generous support from academia and industry. What started from the "friends and family of USF" has grown to a worldwide network of industry and academia now the "Friends and family of WAMICON".

One aspect of WAMICON is our interest in academia and the strong involvement of student and early career engineers as organizers, participants and volunteers. We will close the first day with a student-presenter dominated poster session and reception preceding a banquet dinner. Three awards will be presented for the best student poster, best student paper and best overall oral presentation. One other special award presented is the Rudolf E. Henning Distinguished Mentoring award, given each year since 2009 to a person exemplifying selfless dedication to encouraging students and/or mentoring young engineers to advance their careers in the areas of RF, Microwave and Wireless Engineering. The 2016 award was presented in Clearwater Beach Florida to Dr. Robert Trew of North Carolina State University.

This year we are planning to host 200 attendees with over 75 papers and posters. Share your knowledge with others by presenting your latest research, development and design results. Expand your professional network or catch up with old friends. Stay an extra night for a day on the beach or a visit to nearby Kennedy Space Center, the home of Americas space launch program. Return home in sandy shoes invigorated with new ideas, a renewed enthusiasm and maybe even a suntan.

On behalf of the WAMICON 2017 Steering Committee, I would like to extend a warm welcome to participate in the 2017 Wireless and Microwave Conference at the beautiful Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront.
